FAQs Child and Adolescent Therapy

Do I need a referral?

  • A referral is not required to receive psychological services from Vue Psychology.

What will the first session be like?

  • The first session is usually spent with the parents/guardians to discuss current concerns and gather necessary background information. Depending on the age of the child/youth this information will be shared in a developmentally appropriate manner to seek their perspective on the current situation.

  • If this is your first time booking a individual session for your child or adolescent Please select Child and Adolescent Therapy -Intake Session when booking.

Do both parents/guardians need to attend the individual session?

  • No. One parent/guardian can attend on their own. If parents/guardians are separated or divorced a copy of the court order highlighting parental rights is needed. This is to ensure a court order is not in place that specifically addresses or impacts the issue of consent for a minor.

How many sessions will my child/youth need?

  •  The amount of sessions varies from child to child and is dependent upon many factors. Families determine the frequency of sessions and have the right to withdraw from therapy at any time without prejudice.

How much information will be shared with me about my child/youth’s session?

  • Trust is important for establishing an effective therapeutic relationship and keeping your child/youth engaged in therapy. This means that not every detail of their session will be shared with you. However, there are limits to confidentiality that will be discussed in the first session and in these cases,  information will be immediately communicated to the parents/guardians.

Are you able to communicate with my child’s daycare/preschool/school to help them understand my child better?

  • Yes, with a signed release of information form, Vue Psychology is able to communicate with any other service providers involved in the care of your child/youth.
